Marina Sweeney, PhD

Epidemiologist

Dr. Marina Sweeney is an epidemiologist with nearly a decade of research experience across diverse areas, including environmental, occupational, cancer, nutrition, and sleep epidemiology. Her recent and ongoing projects explore critical topics such as the links between air pollution and cancer risk, cumulative natural hazard exposure and its effects on mental and cardiometabolic health, oil spill exposures and mortality, as well as the impact of historical redlining on cardiometabolic outcomes. Dr. Sweeney holds both an MPH and PhD in Epidemiology, received from The George Washington University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, respectively, following an undergraduate degree in Biology. During her academic career, she collaborated with leading researchers at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Cancer Institute, relationships she continues to maintain in her current work.
