Wrapping Up DLH’s National Window of Service 2022
Since the inception of the DLH Cares program, we have collaborated with numerous agencies whose missions closely align with our own. Each year, DLH employees across the nation participate in our annual National Window of Service (NWS) volunteer campaign, which runs from Patriot Day (September 11) and continues through Veterans Day (November 11). During this campaign, DLH employees contribute, volunteer, and serve in a variety of ways.
Among the many NWS events that DLH employees participated in, this year were three walks to support important causes: Light the Night sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association (AHA) Greater Washington Heart Walk, and the Walk/Run to End HIV and support Whitman-Walker Heath.
Light the Night sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
For many years, DLH staff, friends, and family have participated in Light the Night Walks sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thousands of dollars have been raised to eliminate blood cancers by participating in the annual walks held all over the country. Lanterns light up the darkness in support of survivors and in remembrance of those who died from blood cancer.
This year, the walks in the D.C. area were held in Rockville Town Center, Maryland, on October 15 and on The National Mall in DC on October 22. Thanks to your participation and advocacy and our leadership, DLH raised nearly $2,000 for this important cause.
American Heart Association Greater Washington Heart Walk
Team DLH Cares raised over $7,000 for the Heart Walk this year! We had 13 DLH team members who enjoyed walking together on Saturday, November 5, to promote both physical and emotional health. The Heart Walk is a great way to make a huge impact in the community and save lives.
Heart Walks help save the lives of children born with congenital heart defects and adults struggling with heart disease. The organization also teaches thousands how to save lives through CPR training and funds the next heart and stroke medical breakthrough.
Walk/Run to End HIV to Support Whitman-Walker Heath
On Saturday, October 22, Team DLH Cares participated in the 36th annual Walk & 5K to End HIV benefiting the HIV programs and services of Whitman-Walker Health. Our team raised nearly $1,000 and enjoyed their walk while learning more about the great fight against HIV. Whitman-Walker Health focuses on services and education designed to prevent transmission of the virus and provide care to those who are infected.
Thank You!
We want to send a huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, fundraised, and donated to all the events throughout our National Window of Service! Your time and effort are greatly appreciated and we look forward to continuing to support active-duty military Service Members, Veterans, underserved children and families, and other at-risk populations.
